#GivingTuesdayNow is a day of giving and unity that will take place on May 5, 2020 – in addition to the regularly scheduled Dec 1, 2020 #GivingTuesday – as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. Despite the challenging times and uncertainty that persists today, our work supporting young Black boys across the county must continue and we hope your support will as well.
Barbershop Books’ efforts to improve book access and increase out-of-school time reading among Black boys is more important than ever before. With schools, libraries, and other community resources restricted to virtual content, we want to remind parents and educators that learning and reading should be fun. Barbershop Books is committed to helping families and communities inspire children to read during this difficult time.
Here’s how Barbershop Books is addressing the needs of young learners across the country:
- Working with our community partners in our program areas across the country to distribute children’s books at food distribution sites;
- We’re creating digital content for children (read alouds and puppet shows on Facebook Live) and developing an eLibrary filled with quality children’s literature from authors and illustrators;
- We are sharing free online educational resources, and practical tips for parents.
Will you help us fight to ensure Black boys have access to quality books and reading experiences during this difficult time? Donate.
